Don’t tell anybody:
As everyone sane will do, I always try to find the best way to do something. Being so interested in eBooks about making money, I’ve encountered AWeber a lot. Many sites that give eBooks free required me to subscribe to their newsletter. You know the “I can do better” attitude? $19 a month for sending mails? No way! I can send them myself. It’s very easy to send an eMail.

Yes, sending one eMail is trivial. Actually, I send you an eMail, then you confirm that you agree to receive the newsletter and the bonus eBook. After I receive your consent, I send you the eMail with all that I promised.

This manual approach has a huge drawback. I must be online when you send the first eMail, to be able to reply to it fast enough. I also have to personalize somehow the eMail, to make you believe that I sent the eMail specifically for you.

If I do this 10 times a day, I’ll have to skip my lunch break. 20 times a day, and I don’t have time to watch my favorite TV program. 100 times a day - I’ll sleep at the office. 1000 times a day - well, I simply can’t do it 1000 times a day, no matter what (do you remember that I want to stay sane?)

At that point, I decided that a PHP script could help me with this. I can handle PHP pretty well, so setting up a PHP script wasn’t a problem.

The first one I tried failed miserably. I tried to send an eMail to one of my eMail addresses. It arrived directly in the Junk folder, because the PHP script didn’t know to add proper headers for the eMail.

I got a better free PHP script. Everything went fine, up to a point. My Web host was not very happy about me sending a lot of eMails using their system. I set-up a local Mail Server, so I didn’t use anyone else’s Mail Server to send eMails. Guess what? Some eMails didn’t arrive at all, the ones that arrived took several minutes until they were processed.

The idea is this : you pay, then you get your money back if you don’t like what you see the results you expected. I was expected something like a free trial account, with no money paid in advance. I tried the AWeber’s online chat system. It wasn’t the fastest I’ve ever seen, it’s not available 27/7 but it was one of the most polite I’ve encountered so far. I’ve chatted with Ms. Mary Henwood, who properly addressed all the questions that I had.

One day, I opened my regular (snail) mailbox. I immediately recognized the envelope. It was from AWeber. It was a written welcome letter. They also let me know about a free webinar. I was more than impressed. Some sites don’t accept me in their programs just because I’m Romanian and AWeber spends some money and time to send me a written letter in Romania!
